MANILA, Philippines (11th UPDATE) – Manny Pacquiao successfully defended his World Boxing Organization (WBO) by outpointing Shane Mosley in their 12-round fight in Las Vegas, Nevada on Saturday (Sunday in Manila).
Pacquiao now has a record of 53 wins, 3 losses and 2 draws.
The Filipino champion got a lopsided decision over Antonio Margarito of Mexico prior to his fight against Mosley.
Mosley, who won several world titles in 3 weight classes, dropped to 46 wins, 7 losses and 1 draw.
Pacquiao defended his WBO title in the 12-round bout at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on Saturday (Sunday in Manila).
The Filipino champion currently has a 52-3-2 record, with 38 of his bouts won via knockout (KO).
Mosley, on the other hand, boasts of a 46-6-1 slate with 39 KOs.
Round 1
Both fighters started the fight wary while studying each other’s style.
Mosley attacked Pacquiao but the latter worked on his defense.
Looking nervous, Mosley followed with more jabs. He then attacked with his left hook.
Pacquiao retaliated with a body punch and Pamma jabs to keep Mosley away, following it with a left that missed.
Round 2
Pacquiao threw a right hook then a left straight.
Mosley threw a right hook which Pacquiao evaded, but lost balance.
Pacquiao then connected with a strong left to the body which Mosley received well. Both fighters’ heads almost clashed in the process.
As the fight resumed, Pacquiao connected with a right hook which stunned Mosley.
Pacquiao then went to the American’s body, and then the head.
Round 3
Pacquiao then worked with his jabs. He threw a long left but Mosley moved away. Pacquiao threw a left again, which seemingly hurt Mosley.
After Pacquiao dictated the pace, he used a left straight to knock down Mosley.
Mosley then stood up. Pacquiao connected with a left again as Mosley moved away. The American then clung to Pacquiao to survive the round.
Round 4
Mosley tried to redeem himself by turning on his defense.
Pacquiao then tried to shove Mosley away. Mosley slipped down the canvass, and stood up again.
Mosley became wary as Pacquiao stalked him.
Pacquiao tried to look for an opening and successfully hit hooks toward Mosley’s head and body.
Afraid to engage, Mosley survived the round anew.
Round 5
Pacquiao kept his hands up as the round started against Mosley, who was apparently looking tense.
Pacquiao cocked a hand, which Mosley immediately evaded.
Mosley then used his jab to keep Pacquiao at bay. He then connected twice to Pacquiao’s midsection, but the Filipino pug didn’t seem affected.
Pacquiao then went back to action, rattling Mosley with a right hook.
Mosley then clung and whispered something to Pacman. The referee then separated both of them.
Pacquiao then continued his attacks before the round ended.
Round 6
Employing a jab, Mosley seemed to work on his speed at the start of the round. Pacquiao, however, answered back with a looping left hand.
Mosley then countered Pacquiao, but the Filipino attacked with a 1-2 and then a left hand lead.
Mosley, once again, clung to Pacquiao as the Filipino attacked with another 1-2. This had sent Mosley scrambling.
The American hit with jabs as Pacquiao defended himself by covering his face with his arms.
Round 7
Mosley apparently couldn’t handle Pacquiao’s speed, said the Fighter of the Decade’s trainer Freddie Roach. Pacquiao threw left hand leads to start the round.
Mosley then retaliated with jabs but failed to utilize his longer reach. Pacquiao then stalked him on the canvass.
The American tested his body but Pacquiao answered with 6 fast punches, causing Mosley to retreat.
Mosley then connected with a jab, only to receive a strong 1-2 from Pacquiao. The sound of Pacquiao’s punches were reverberating.
Round 8
Mosley entered the 8th round with a seemingly puffy face compared with Pacquiao’s face, which was left unmarked.
Pacquiao connected with a hook, which Mosley evaded.
Mosley then fought back with a right hand.
Pacquiao moved forward, easily ducking Mosley’s jabs.
Pacquiao connected to the body then threw a hook to Mosley’s face. The Filipino followed it with punches from different angles, as Mosley struggled to keep his balance.
Round 9
Pacquiao threw a double jab to start the round, rushing next with a 1-2.
Mosley fired back as his head clashed against Pacquiao’s. The referee checked both fighters and then declared the resumption of the fight.
Pacquiao wasted no time connecting with his power left. He then hooked to the body, then to the head.
When it was Mosley’s time to attack, Pacquiao easily warded off with punches.
Pacquiao connected again and threw Mosley back with a powerful left.
Mosley then jabbed twice and connected as the round ended.
Round 10
Mosley attacked with jabs but couldn’t handle Pacquiao’s speed. He reeled back from Pacquiao’s 1-2-3. Pacquiao used his side-to-side movement and hit Mosley’s body.
Mosley then pushed Pacquiao to the ground, which the referee had counted as a knockdown. Pacquiao, however, protested.
The fight resumed with a slightly angry Pacquiao continuing with his attacks.
Mosley then clung anew. Pacquiao was clearly angered with the count.
Round 11
Pacquiao’s face showed grim determination, wanting to end the fight sooner.
Pacquiao threw strong jabs sending Mosley to the ropes.
Mosley, on the other hand, was too slow for the anger-driven Pacquiao.
As Pacquiao showed domination over Mosley, the latter used defense to survive the round.
Round 12
After witnessing the previous controversial rounds, the people inside MGM Grand resorted to chanting “Manny, Manny!”
Pacquiao then connected with a right hand. Mosley, on the other hand, connected to the body. This seemed to hurt Pacquiao but the determined Filipino carried on.
Mosley threw punches against Pacquiao on the body, but was greeted by boos from the crowd.
Pacquiao then connected with a left. He then threw punches to the body, then to the head.
Pacquiao stalked Mosley again in the final minutes. He then connected with a left hook but Mosley boxed his way to survive the match.
